stopped to take pictures of the storm clouds gathering, thereby increasing my chances of getting caught in the inevitable downpour, with my camera.

This morning I dropped off my final project to get printed, so I thought I’d share it here as well. All of these pics have been posted before on the site as part of individual assignments, but I wanted to group the best of the bunch (or at least what my class’s consensus of the best of the bunch) in one place. Here they are:
depressing new york city
on their best day, new york city street fairs are a bit seedy and depressing, with their “professional vendors” selling block upon block of socks, knockoff purses and fried food. But if you want to go for truly depressing, set up a giant, 20 block long “festival” and watch as half the vendors don’t even show up because it’s rained for most of the day, leaving vast open swathes of curb between booths, while the few vendors who do show up (of course, only the hardcore professionals, not any of the local artisans), stand huddled under their rain-sagged canopies.

so this past week’s photography class assignment was to take additional pictures of our final theme (bicycles), and since I had opted to do the close-up, more abstracted work, I took some more in that direction. Of course, when we got together for class last night to pick photos for the show, none of these got picked (instead, everyones favorites were from the earliest series done in the berkshires – I’ll post the final layout in a few days), but I still like most of them, so here they are…

the second in a series I like to call “photographing random crap on my desk when I forget to take any other pictures today”

22 – wasteful (I stop to get coffee at this espresso place near me periodically, and they always insist on giving out chocolate. except, I hate chocolate. so I end up feeling guilty about the waste.)

23 – metropolitan museum fail (walked all the way over to the met today (wednesday) to see the Robert Frank exhibit that opened yesterday, only to discover that they decided to shut down the entire museum for an unscheduled UN event. I think they need a new sign for when they close the museum on a day that’s not Monday. This one is just confusing. And they need to learn how to place announcements on the front page of their website. in bold.)
