summer 2025 travel | Mongolia
by sam on 09/14/2025In my annual effort to find a really new place to travel, this summer I ended up in Mongolia. The trip was fantastic, even with the 30-odd hours of travel to get there. We started and ended in Ulaanbataar, and as part of the trip did a big circle around central Mongolia (bucket list? going to far western mongolia for the eagles). A few highlights of the trip included many Buddhist monasteries and temples, some of which were still intact (many were destroyed during the communist era, or during earlier conflicts between different Buddhist sects), the absolutely stunning landscapes, the wild horses, and spending time with several nomad families – the last of which was an extra special treat because our trip coincided with one of their children turning five and having his first haircut in an elaborate ceremony that we were invited to.
Anyway, as per usual, click on the thumbnails to get a larger version of the pictures.
