I manage to get myself sick. Nothing like a little bit of the flu to make the Turkey taste that much better. Anyway, I’m off to the country house to recuperate (and infect the rest of my family).

Project for the weekend? dragging my dad and stepmom into the 21st century by setting up the wireless network in the weekend house. The last time I tried to talk them through it on the phone, I spent 20 minutes asking questions, only to ask, "ok, now what color is light light on the Airport?" and get the response "oh, you mean that thing has to be plugged in?".

Yeah. They’re not allowed to touch things.

In other news, we did go to see Twelve Angry Men, last night, and it was great. I’ve read it several times, and it’s like an entire evidence class rolled into one 90-minute theatrical exercise. One downer – Philip Bosco was out sick. His understudy was great, but Juror Number Three is the heart of the show, and I just kept imagining Bosco’s utterly distinctive voice saying the same lines. The best part about going to see shows like this on Broadway? realizing that every single one of these actors has credits from Law & Order in their Who’s Who. Ahh, the incredibly tiny New York-based acting community. It was like a room full of male Tovah Feldshuhs.

Apple goes and releases this. I am SO getting one of these for Chanukah, even if I have to buy it myself.

Seriously. The only reason your reading this right now is because I backed up my blog files on Saturday. For some reason beyond my comprehension, when I went to publish a little while ago, All of my files started getting deleted from the server and my hard drive. Everything for the past week had to be re-created (if you’ve linked to any of those pages, the address has changed and you may want to re-link), but thanks to backup, I was able to restore the bulk (190+ entries) of my files in just a few minutes. And now I’m going to back this up too.

I really need to start going through and removing certain shows from my TiVO season pass, because no matter how bad they are, if they’re there, I watch them. For instance: CSI Miami may be the worst show on TV (or, at the very least, the worst show that attempts to masquerade as quality TV), but I started recording it because I loved the original, and I just keep watching it every Monday night. I think I need an intervention.

I don’t mean to be a corporate shill, but this? is awesome. Granted, I have a mac, but I’ve already had one windows user describe their absolute flabbergasted-ness about how wonderful iTunes is. Now I think it’s all a plot by Apple to get people to fall in love with their software and move in droves to their computers. A really good plot.

I’ve been thinking about getting a new computer. You, of course, probably don’t care all that much. I bought an iMac last May, and i love it to pieces, but it’s a desktop and there’s this part of me that wants to get one of those little white iBooks so that I can sit on my couch, or in bed, and browse my favorite internet sites, update my blog, and all of the other stuff I imagine I would do if I wasn’t tethered to my desk.

And I could get an aircard and go sit in bryant park during lunch.

This really all started because I changed jobs two months ago. My old office gave us all laptops if we wanted them (instead of desktops), so I always had the option. I didn’t really take advantage of it too much, but it was nice to know that it was there. My new firm only has desktops. I think I can borrow a company laptop in a pinch, but I don’t think "going to sit in the park on a saturday afternoon and surf the internet" is a valid reason.

I also happen to be totally compulsive when it comes to buying things like electronics. I currently have: my iMac, a Sony Clie, a cellphone (for which I am already itching to buy a new one), a blackberry (supplied by my office), a really nice digital camera, and assorted extra computer parts strewn about my apartment. (and that’s not even going near my entertainment system setup). Except for the camera, I drag all of this crap around with me every day.

But back to the iBook impulse. I’ve already talked myself out of the 12" powerbook (which costs 3 times as much), because, while it’s really cool looking, I really have no need for that kind of computing power, particularly on a "secondary" computer. I need something that basically works as an extension of my desktop (the beauty of mac is that I can network them together through my wi fi system so that they can share files). so I think the iBook is perfect. and i want the really small one. just because if I’m going to get a second computer for travel convenience, it might as well be really travel-worthy. I’m going to give myself another month (maybe until apple launches their new operating system, so that i don’t have to buy it separately). and then i’m probably just going to give in…
