Saturday was my birthday, and my parents sent me these lovely flowers. They’re quite pretty, but my stepmom was a bit annoyed that they included a LOT of red flowers, given that she had specifically ordered a non-red bouquet in order to try to get away from the whole birthday-getting-overshadowed-by-valentines’ day thing. I would have never known the difference if she hadn’t said anything, but I chalked it up to the fact that you’re not getting a whole lot of variety in the middle of February. Still pretty.

this is just sad. I know people have tiny apartments, but there’s just no excuse for doing this to your bicycles.

one of the oddest cloud formations I’ve seen in a while. Assuming this is a precuror to SNOWPOCALYPSE part 2 that is supposed to hit tomorrow.

I bought these pedal straps last year, and they were the best investment ever. I can’t handle clipless pedals, because I am a giant klutz, and toe clips are not particularly useful if you can’t tighten them because you have to brake every two blocks because you’re riding in city traffic (and you’re a giant klutz), so these were a good in-between. you slide your foot in on the diagonal, and when you straighten it, the strap tightens and holds your foot in place. as a bonus, you can wear any shoes.

Ok. so it’s nowhere near spring. But I got this mailer for the first big (and biggest!) bike ride of the season, and it made me very happy. Even though the ride itself is a giant, crowded, somewhat unpleasant mass of humanity.

Taken on Friday, which was widely considered to be one of the coldest days of the year. I don’t know what this guy did to piss off his manager, but while I waited a good 15 minutes for the bus, he was forced to walk back and forth in front of the Old Navy, shouting into a bullhorn about an awesome sale, while wearing this stupid hat, which wouldn’t even keep his head warm if he were wearing it correctly.

I have to admit that I kind of fell down on the job, 365-wise, for the past week. I don’t know if it was the mid-winter doldrums, or the fact that I was busy with other stuff, or just ennui, but somehow, a whole week went by and I didn’t take any pics. Now I feel bad about it. So the next entry will be an actual picture that I took today!
