fob | 365:142

Got my key fob for citibike today. It starts Monday for areas theoretically south of central park (just far enough away to make this not yet a viable commuting option), but I signed up anyway because it was really cheap ($95/year) and there are some advantages to having a yearly membership, like the ability to keep bikes out for 45 minutes at a time instead of 30, and, well, the key fob (which lets you release a bike directly from its station instead of having to go to the screen at the end). I say it’s for areas theoretically south of central park, because the official citibike rack map on my iPhone still only shows racks in lower manhattan. Let’s see how much more they get done in a week!

Just another normal Saturday in New York City, when going to get a pedicure means randomly running into a latin dance parade. This is actually not the first year I’ve had this happen.

You can barely see it in the photo, but the moon was peeking out from the pre-sunset sky while I was waiting for the bus tonight. Days like this are why I like taking the bus over the subway.

The O’Neill building. They spend years renovating/refurbishing this thing, and a few months ago a giant piece of masonry fell off the front of the building into the street. Doesn’t make me want to live in one of the turrets any less though.

I missed a few days over the last couple of weeks, with the renovation and the massive work project that finally came to fruition after months of work (months on my part, years on the part of others who have been there longer), so I’m finally taking a breath and catching up. Here’s what I managed to capture over the period, including the finished bathroom.

Spring seems to have finally arrived for good, and with it, the blooming dogwoods in my neighborhood. I’m torn between the joy of winter finally being over and the dread of the inevitable allergies that accompanies this event.

As its the weekend, no discernible progress on the apartment, other than the fact that I bought paint yesterday.

For a change of pace, and because there’s still no construction progress on Easter Sunday, I thought I’d venture back outside for a photo. This is a really old sign on Columbus, which has no actual correlation to the shops and restaurants that sit below it.

I had to get a haircut today, on top of everything else I’ve got going on, so I hopped on the subway to go downtown to my hairdresser. Wherein I noticed this pair of sneakers sitting in the middle of the railbed. presumably someone’s feet are not happy about this development.

Post haircut, I wandered up to Madison Square for a manicure and some dinner at Eataly. It’s the first time I’ve noticed this sign, even though I lived around the corner for six years, and find it kind of hard to believe that it’s new. Plus, a cliche shot of the flatiron building – I was just struck by the magic hour light that was happening at the moment.

It’s not particularly exciting, but I actually got out of work before sundown yesterday, so I took a picture.

I know I’ve taken pictures of the helmsley building before, but I’m stuck late again in that office that is not my own but which affords me such a great view.

By the way – we’re three days from spring, and it’s snowing.
