very simple

Tue Jan 18 2005:

I woke up this morning with a raging migraine, but muddled through about half a day at work anyway. In the dark, with my office door shut for most of the time. Once I got done the things I had to get done, I left early and came home. Fell asleep on my couch at about 3, and woke up at around 9:30. I’ll probably fall back asleep in about 20 minutes – these things, more than anything, just completely wipe me out.

I’m convinced now that the headache and nausea were my body’s way of preventing my from turning on the radio in my office and accidentally hearing too much of the inauguration. At least that’s what I’m telling myself to make myself feel better.

I love days like today. Why? because it’s 3 in the afternoon and I’m still in my pajamas. The only thing that I have to do today is sit around my apartment and wait for my Fresh Direct delivery. And then watch the Golden Globes tonight. And the best part? that all of the errands that I theoretically could be running today (of which there are very few)? Can just get done tomorrow, because my office is closed for MLK day.

That’s not to say that I didn’t bring a little bit of work home with me, but it’s really only so that I can get a jump start on next week, more than anything that needs to get done.

Anyway, I’m off to go watch the Battlestar Galactica movie for the next 8 million hours.

It’s the little things that add up…

I would be more enthusiastic in general, but in light of recent events, I’ll just say that no matter how your 2004 was, here’s hoping that 2005 is better…for you and for the planet.

In the meantime, I’m off to a party in about 20 minutes, where I hope to get nice and drunk in time for the new year.

Oh, who am I kidding? I’ll have two cosmopolitans and fall asleep. because I’m old. and I spent too many years of my youth volunteering to be the designated driver.

I know the article is actually tongue in cheek, but I would totally take advantage of sarcasm punctuation. I actually refrain from sending certain e-mails and posting certain items because I know someone is going to take it more seriously than intended.

…on Thanksgiving: no one wants you within 100 feet of the food preparation, so they just keep bring you snacks and you get out of any cooking.

Sorry that my updates have been a little more sporadic recently, but I’ve been totally busy with my real job. It’s only the 19th (or 20th given that it’s 12:40 in the morning) and I’ve already billed close to 170 hours this month. I truly do enjoy what I do, but at times it does leave a little less time for the whole hobby-blogging thing. Plus, spending several days writing corporate documents can really suck the political and literary creativity out of anyone (yeah, I know – from the outside it looks like the most boring job on earth. Maybe I’m just a boring person in denial – whatever the case, my job suits me, or I suit it). Not to mention that I couldn’t get any work done this weekend, due to one of my best friends getting married. And with this post, I’m coming close to breaking my personal rule about never writing about work or friends in any substantive way, so that’s where it ends. ‘night y’all.

Sometimes I think the Times is at its best when it’s delving into silly esoterica about current events (heaven knows, they’ve been sucking lately at the more important stuff.

I’ve never done the online dating thing, but I can’t say that I haven’t perused some of the more popular sites in my downtime (and I’m certainly not knocking the concept – I know more than one person who has found love this way), but this just cracked me up because I’ve seen every single one of these poses.
