empire state | 365:019

by sam on 01/20/2013

I’m still trying to find the erector set Eiffel Tower, but for now the empire state building will have to suffice. Erector sets were my favorite toy as a child.

friday sadie | 365:018

by sam on 01/18/2013

Trying to limit myself to one cat photo a week, so I’m taking a cue from the rest of the Internet (at least for this week) and doing a little Friday cat blogging.

kitchen timer | 365:017

by sam on 01/18/2013

I’m sure I’ve posted a photo of this as part of another 365 project, but there are only so many tchochkes in my apartment to take pictures of at the last minute when I’m hunting for a subject at 11:30pm. So there will be repeats. hopefully they will have different framing/editing/whatever so that it’s clear that they’re not actually just duplicates of the old photos.

In any event, magnetic kitchen timer stuck to the fridge, because my kitchen is so tiny that I buy anything I find that allows me to reduce the clutter/crap on the countertop.

craft services | 365:016

by sam on 01/16/2013

There’s nothing quite like the luxury of the craft services table late at night on a street that is pretty much the closest thing to an alley you’ll find in midtown (45th and Park, behind the Metlife building). Encountered on my way out of the office. The permits for the film list something titled “A Winter’s Tale”, which apparently stars a LOT of famous people. None of whom I actually saw.

random candle feature from the back wall of Dos Caminos, where I had dinner tonight with friends I haven’t seen in forever!

empty fountain | 365:014

by sam on 01/14/2013

this is actually an extra photo that I took yesterday in Madison Square Park. NYC empties out the fountains in the wintertime under the theory that frozen water is not good for them. Of course, it hit 60 degrees today. In January.

eyesore | 365:013

by sam on 01/13/2013

These three buildings used to comprise one store known as the M. Gordon Novelty shop. It was a bright blue eyesore, made even more eyesore-ish by the fact that in the entire time I lived in the flatiron neighborhood, the shop was actually abandoned. It spend years as a closed, gated over, crumbling mess in the middle of some of the most premium real estate in the city (you can sort of see the old building from an angle in a photo I took in 2005. and this flickr group seems to be dedicated to preserving its memory). But it was also one of those vestiges of old new york that more often disappear too quickly in our modern age. I’m glad that they refurbished the buildings – if nothing else I spent years wondering when the thing was going to collapse. I just wish they had found something more unique than yet another le pain quotidian to stick inside.

cat-sitting | 365:011

by sam on 01/11/2013

Yes. it’s another cat picture. It will probably be a theme. I pulled out the desk chair tonight to sit down and do some important stuff on my computer (or check Facebook. whatever), and sadie immediately jumped up and assumed this spot. the rascal.
