I did actually take this yesterday. I just forgot to post it!

Close-up of an actually tiny fan in my apartment.

dodo | 365:028

by sam on 01/28/2013

I had an original black ipad2 dodocase that I bought soon after I got my iPad. Not only did I like the moleskine-esque design, but the fact that they are attempting to move classic 19th and 20th century handcrafted “technologies” (bookbinding, tailoring) into a 21st century space appealed to me. But, alas, my old case finally bit the dust when I thought it would be brilliant idea to pile a bunch of crap (including laptop) on top of it while it was open, breaking the spine. Duct tape was an interim solution, but I finally bit the bullet and ordered up a new one – this time custom made.

angel of the waters | 365:027

The last post was of an angry sea-god, so I might as well counterbalance with one of my favorite (and most-photographed) spots in the city – Bethesda Fountain, featuring the angel of the waters, a tribute to the naval war dead after the Civil War, and one of the most beautiful, well-placed fountains around (even without water in the wintertime). According to “New York, A Documentary History” (which I have watched in its 14-hour entirety multiple times), there was controversy when she was installed, due to the fact that she looked like a peasant with wings rather than some lofty creature, but the people loved that she was, well, one of them.

neptune | 365:026

by sam on 01/27/2013

A belated 365 post – I admit to totally falling down on the job yesterday, so this is the first of two today. This is neptune. or poseidon. One of many scary sea-god heads defending the Dakota from interlopers (I admit the doormen do a better job on that score!).

snow | 365:025

by sam on 01/25/2013

It’s not the first snow this winter, but it’s looking like it might be the first one to stick around. And, of course, a quarter-inch of the stuff on the ground completely bollixes up all modes of transportation.

Yet another in my pile of largely “decorative” cameras. I think it might still actually work, but it’s incredibly difficult (and expensive) to find film that fits, and in the age of the digital camera, it doesn’t seem to be worth the effort. But still a pretty cool looking piece that cost me $5 at a tag sale (I bargained the guy down from $10!).

work | 365:023

Today I had to spend most of the day at another office, but the place actually afforded a pretty great view of the Helmsley Building, which is where I normally go when I go to work these days.

spires | 365:022

And back to the grind after a 3-day weekend. Another night waiting for the bus on 6th Avenue. I think this spire is part of the (relatively) new Bank of America Tower.

inauguration day | 365:021

by sam on 01/21/2013

Watching the inauguration on TV today provided me with a bit of inspiration. I admit that I didn’t wear this button quite as much as I did during the 2008 election, but I still voted for Obama, and I’d vote for him again if I had the chance.

more houston street pics

by sam on 01/20/2013

Just a few more pics from my stroll down houston street today. A little disconcerted by the fact that it was, yet again, in the 50s in January, but I’ll take advantage of it while it lasts.
