One of the many myriad projects I’ve got going on in this whole apartment refresh (a pending bathroom renovation being the biggest one) is to buy a new couch. My old one is 13, and is very much showing it’s age, particularly (as I have learned the hard way) since cats apparently LOVE to scratch up leather. I’m limiting myself to microfiber options for the new one for this very reason. Nothing may be cat “proof”, but if the microfiber slipcovers I got for my chair and ottoman recently have taught me anything, it’s that Sadie appears to have zero interest in even attempting to get her claws into it. It’s not the sexiest fabric, but then again, neither is something that I end up having to cover in blankets to protect.
These are from Room & Board. After the article in the NY Times the other week on couches, I started looking a little higher than places like West Elm (although there’s zero chance I’m spending over $10K on a couch!).

Sadie runs and hides when I pull out my iPhone, but the minute I get out the giant SLR, she starts posing like crazy.

As part of a daily ritual, my admin and I go downstairs to starbucks every day. Today, we encountered…this. You can’t really get the full flavor of this feathered headdress contraption without seeing the front, where it has scarf-like arm appendages that fall down to one’s knees, but as I am a coward, you only get the back.
As a bonus, here’s a picture of this morning’s snow as seen from our offices that was originally going to be my daily pic. It got superseded.

Finally went to the doctor today, and it turns out I have a “massive” sinus infection. So now I’m on real drugs. Can’t say I’m feeling that much better yet, but I’m hoping that these’ll kick in pretty quickly.

I got hit with a 48 hour bug yesterday. At least I hope it’s a 48 hour bug. I’m now in the sweaty fever-about-to-break-phase, so I’m hoping I’ll make it to work tomorrow. But the old standby robitussin will ensure that I get to sleep tonight. Even though I’ve pretty much slept through the bulk of the day. With periodic soup breaks.

I’ve never been a huge starbucks fan, but the convenience factor has generally outweighed everything else these days. The fact that there’s a starbucks in our building makes it miles more accessible than walking several blocks to the nearest “local” place. Which probably isn’t that local anyway – it’s just a brand that’s less ubiquitous.
In any event – daily short cappuccino.

Not fun: getting stuck at work all day Sunday.
Fun: neon radio city music hall signage without a giant touristy crowd in the way because it’s late on Sunday night.

This was the first building I worked in when I moved to New York City as a lawyer. Back then it was the home of both my first law firm (Thelen, Reid & Priest) and the Howard Stern show. Celebrity guests made for some interesting mornings attempting to get to work – although I do have the experience of literally walking into Ringo Starr in the lobby when he was a surprise guest. As in, not watching where I was going because I was digging around my purse for my building ID, and crashing into him. Only realizing once I looked up to apologize that he was, you know…a Beatle.
In any event, Thelen eventually moved out, I moved on to another firm, and I only pass by when on my way to other things.

playing around some more with some of the new HDR presets I’ve installed. random vase in my apartment. pretty sure I ended up with this after some sort of bar mitzvah/wedding/social event where everyone steals the centerpieces at the end.
