It looks like we’re getting another subway fare increase<\/a> (this time of course, only<\/em> on the form of Metrocard I use – the monthly). Here’s the part that ticks me off though:<\/p>\n

The Bloomberg administration does think there’s still room for the MTA to do some internal budget tightening, especially with the private cars many executives get.<\/strong> The NY Times put a bunch of reporters on the tails of different MTA execs, finding out that many don’t use the MTA<\/a> and asking them why they didn’t. For the most part, these execs seem to live in the suburbs, where having a car makes it easier to get around.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I grew up in the suburbs, and my dad always had to buy his own damn car. And he worked for a company that actually made a profit (The liquor industry – recession-proof since at least 1928). Heck, living in the suburbs isn’t even an excuse to need a car for the commute, as the MTA also runs Metro-North and the Long Island Railroad, which have also been forced to raise their rates in recent times. And if they’re only using a car to get around the suburbs on their days off? Then it certainly<\/em> shouldn’t be a company car. Bloomberg’s a billionaire and he still <\/em>takes the subway to work.<\/p>\n

And with that post? I’m late for work. Time to run and go catch my own subway train.<\/p>\n
